As you will see from our recent Facebook posts, myself and Ellie have become official fundraisers for the Northampton Hope Centre. We chose the Northampton Hope Centre as our charity because of their work to tackle homelessness, poverty and social exclusion.
Our aim is to improve the availability of quality accommodation for everyone in Northamptonshire, so we are delighted to be supporting a charity that is making such a positive change to peoples’ lives. We hope that we can be part of that change.
The Northampton Hope Centre “helps people experiencing the most acute problems of disadvantage, exclusion and marginalisation.” They also provide services that “will enable individuals to take back control of their own lives, and campaign with them against the causes of their disadvantage.”
Figures from 2016 showed that nearly 4,200 people slept rough across England and figures from the previous year showed that in Northampton alone, there were nearly 550 people registered as statutory homeless and this is a figure that we want to change.
Both myself and Ellie are so passionate about making a difference and that’s why we are running the Northampton Half Marathon on September 9th, 2018. All the money we raise through JustGiving will be going to the Northampton Hope Centre, and we will also be collecting donations of food, clothes and toiletries if you cannot afford to donate money.
We will be posting live Facebook videos, Facebook updates and blogs of our training every week. At the moment neither of us are exactly in a fit state to run a mile, let alone half a marathon! So, it should be funny to see how our first few months of training go.
Keep your eyes open for updates on our training!
